Phase One's image quality is superior to 4x5 film
This brochure illustrates the results of three different and independent image quality comparisons. The images from the Swedish Magazine Fotografi, the US Magazine PEI (PHOTO Electronic Imaging), and the Japanese printing company Dai Nippon Printing shows a comparison between one or more digital cameras and conventional film.
Same Conclusion
The magazines reached the same conclusion. When comparing a digital image
captured with a Phase One digital camera system to an image scanned to
the same file size from 4x5 film, the digital file is clearly better.
It is cleaner, does not contain film grain, has more exact colors, and
has a better dynamic range.
Digital Images Have No Grain
The images captured by Dai Nippon Printing compares how large you can
reproduce images using 4x5 film and a Phase One digital system.The images
show that you can only enlarge an image to a certain point before quality
loss becomes visible. When enlarging the file during a scan the grain
in the film is the limiting factor. When enlarging the digital camera
file the limitation is determined by the cameras maximum resolution and
the amount of interpolated enlargement you can add to the file before
pixelization becomes apparent.
